A little update here on the radiator overflow nipple. I did exactly what craig suggested a couple weeks ago with the teflon tape and it seems to be holding up fine. It worked a treat until the radiator got a 'plug' in it and needed replacing altogether. I salvaged the nipple from the old tank and kept it.
