The stock roll bar used a bracket weld on the base of the main bar for the retractable part of the seat belt and one of the two bolts the clamp for the side bars as an anchor point at the top. On my 1979 CJ5 manufactured in October of 1978 the roll bar mounts entirely on top of the wheel tubs to an L shaped plate. This plate is also bolted through the side of the body. Just as shown in the photo Oliie09 posted.(2002 90) I noticed that a bolt on a rear anti-roll bar bracket has sheared and the rubber bush has come out. Looks like the bar won't easily fit back in as it has moved backwards a bit. Looking at the description in the Tech Archive for the front one, there would seem to be tension in the bar and I think caution is required.

I just checked the NHRA rule book and it says that you can bolt the roll bar in. "All vehicles with OEM frame must have roll bar welded or bolted to frame..."
