Exhaust Back Pressure was created by Dinos55. Trying to understand my exhaust test results on my 1998 C1500 5.7 the first 5 seconds are 750 RPM the next 5 seconds are 2000 RPM and the last 5 seconds are 3000 RPM. I don't understand the high vacuum on the 2000 RPM is this normal for a late 90's Chevy Pickup..

If a vehicle fails the engine backpressure vacuum test, you can pinpoint the component in the exhaust system causing the concern by measuring backpressure at different points in the exhaust system. These measurements can typically be made through the O2 sensor ports. Start by inspecting the system for … See moreOct 1, 2021 · Exhaust back pressure is one such concept that’s widely misunderstood. This is mostly a consequence of misinterpreted test results and good ol’ hearsay. Back pressure is actually quite simple — as the name suggests, it is the pressure that pushes back on your exhaust system against the direction of flow.

Jul 25, 2023 · The exhaust back pressure sensor (EBP sensor) is a small electrical component found in the exhaust system of a vehicle. Its work is to record pressure levels within the exhaust system. The EBP sensor relays the pressure information to the engine control module (ECM) for a better engine which will then control the engine based on the information ...The exhaust back pressure is one of the most misunderstood concepts in exhaust theory. Let's see what are facts behind it.2. Converter Restriction: The Back Pressure Test. Just like the vacuum test above, a back pressure test can help you diagnose a clogged exhaust system, but this test is done directly at the exhaust system to detect a plugged catalytic converter or muffler or pipe. This simple test requires a back pressure gauge. ….

I have never heard of an exhaust backpressure sensor for a 6.0, now the 7.3's have one IIRC I have a stright piped exhaust and I know for a fact they are full of crap!On an '06 the EBPS is on the LH side of the engine near the front. The tube bolts to the front FICM bracket. The tube goes down to the exhaust manifold. IMO its a good idea to replace the sensor at the 150k mark, as they seem to start failing near that marker. Definitely clean the tube too.

So I have checking in to exhaust back pressure. The GM test is no load 2000 RPM and a service limit of 1.25 PSI. When I do this test I get 1.25 PSI. If I turn on the A/C during this test it goes up to 1.5 PSI. Light to normal driving (1500 -2000RPM) it is 3 to 7 PSI. Medium acceleration (3000+RPM) pegs the gauge at 10 PSI.The Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine, just below the turbocharger. The EBP sensor measures the exhaust back pressure and sends the signal to the ECM. The ECM uses this information to adjust the turbocharger's boost pressure and the engine's operating parameters based on the exhaust back pressure.
